C&K Market ChariTree Holiday Festival

Christmas trees have been decorated and voting is under way for the second annual ChariTree Festival at Brookings-Harbor Shopping Center.

The trees are at various vacant storefronts in the shopping center, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today (Dec. 7) through Friday, Dec. 9.

The ChariTree Festival is an avenue for local charities to raise funds and a chance for residents and visitors to enjoy the Christmas holiday. Dozens of volunteers from local charities and nonprofit organizations spent a week turning the ordinary trees into dazzlers, in hopes of winning.

Each participating charity will receive $100 plus the proceeds from a silent auction of their ChariTree. Shoppers may also buy tickets to vote for their favorite ChariTree. The charity with the most votes will receive an extra $500.

Voting tickets are $1 and available at Shop Smart.

The charities include:

Over the Rainbow special needs riding program

Pacific Crossroads

Stagelights Musical Arts Community

Stout Mountain Railway

Brookings-Harbor Community Theater

Winners will be announced during festivities on Friday, scheduled from 4 to 6:30 p.m. People are invited to bring the family to the festival and have pictures with Santa, play games, win prizes, sip free hot cider and listen to the sounds of strolling carolers. Children will be invited to participate in games and a coloring contest. For those 21 and older, there will be a wine raffle.

Also taking place during the event is a Brookings-Harbor Chamber of Commerce mixer at 5 p.m. at Barron’s Home Furnishings, also at the shopping center.

Following the event, a live radio-style presentation of “A Christmas Carol” is schedule at 7 p.m. on stage at the Harbor Performing Arts Center. Admission to the play is $5 at the door.

Stout Mountain Railway will operate an indoor holiday train display, with a sneak preview during Friday afternoon’s festivities. The grand opening for the display is Saturday.
